We try to remind our guests that we are a bookstore and not a restaurant, although the distinction begins to blur as sleepy-eyed guests stumble in for our creamy lattes and our Cinnamon French Toast sautéed with Granny Smith apples in a brown sugar sauce or waffles with Grand Marnier or frittatas or Eggs Benedict...  Vegetarians will love our Hummus platter or Veggie Sandwiches.  Be sure to save room for our famous banana-chocolate chip muffins made with Ghiradelli chocolate, baked fresh each morning, but be careful...they're addictive!  If chocolate is not your thing, you can sample our Zapote or Pina Colada or Mandarin Lemon Ginger muffins, depending on the availability of seasonal fruits each morning.

El Gato Negro is unique in offering bagels and butter croissants each day, as well as English muffins from our local  bakery.  We are proud to support the efforts of the El Faro bakery here in San Juan del Sur.

Offerings vary with the mood of the chef.  One day we might serve honey mustard chicken salad sandwiches, and the next day will feature Shepherd's Pie.  Pesto Pasta, Rob's Famous Texas Chili, Asian Noodle Salad, Baked Macaroni and White Cheddar, and Roasted Turkey Breast Sandwiches have graced the Daily Special's board as well.  Entrees and sandwiches are served with a beautiful salad of baby greens and creamy cilantro-jalapeno dressing or starfruit vinaigrette or whatever else Kelly and the girls create in the oversized closet that serves as the world's smallest commercial kitchen!

While the menu is subject to the whims and desires of the staff, there is always something tasty available.
